Lake Goran
Created over a number of years, this series documents my search for Lake Goran, an ephemeral lake in northwest New South Wales and a place tied to both personal and collective histories. It was here that my mother took her life, making the lake a site of reflection and loss. Situated on stolen Gamilaroi Country, in a landscape now contested by mining interests, the lake is disappearing more frequently due to droughts exacerbated by climate change. The series grapples with themes of ownership, legacy, and environmental crisis, using the lake as a metaphor for personal grief, colonial history, ecological destruction, hope and renewal. The series is accompanied by a video, and a long-form poem, Princess was here, which was shortlisted for the Newcastle Poetry Prize (2022).
